In the beginning, there were black high top Converse and bouncy balls. There were pencil skirts and fried eggs. There was dancing, Lower East Side walks and Jazmine Sullivan.

In the beginning, there were eyes across the newsroom and the anticipation of an interview-email-turned-personal. There were carefully worded compliments and fingers crossed we’d be sent out for the same story.

In the beginning, there was Vietnamese food and Toricos mint chocolate chip. There were long runs in Liberty State Park and big questions about who we were and wanted to be. There were cherry blossoms in Branch Brook Park and drawn out laughter with friends, and big bash birthdays complete with ridiculous incidents.

In the beginning, there were introductions to people of our pasts, fingers laced under tables, and I’ll meet yous each time we were apart.

In the beginning, I never could have imagined we’d craft this life together, never imagined our beginnings would result in this co-existence, these four, this much beauty.

To more chapters of us.

  3. In the beginning I discovered a fellow literacy coach on Twitter who now feels like a friend. Happy birthday to your sweet guy. Your family photo oozes with warm, love, laughter, and strength.

  4. What a sweet gift. Some many small details that add up to something big. Happy birthday.

  5. In the beginning, someone with a name I wasn’t sure how to pronounce offered to work together on a project that was in its infancy. In the beginning, she worked with me and helped shape an idea that was bigger than I ever envisioned. In the beginning I looked for her texts and laughed at the similarities with so much admiration for her and all that she was getting done.

I’m so happy our paths crossed, and proud to be your friend.
